When a licensee chooses to become a REALTOR, he or she agrees to abide by the Code of Ethics and cooperate with code enforcement. Code Enforcement typically address two primary issues:
- An arbitration request, which concerns money-typically, a disputed commission. As you’ll see, the REALTORS’ agreement to arbitrate monetary disputes, not LITIGATE them, is one of the most distinct parts of the Code of Ethics.
- An ethics complaint, which concerns behavior. An ethics complaint can result in severe penalties for a REALTOR depending upon the seriousness of the violation.
